Japanese sashiko style hand-stitching is a form of decorative reinforced stitching used as functional or as decorative embroidery. These are cyanotype top panels. Cynaotype printing is a photographic process that creates a beautiful photographic print in white on a blue background. Treated with a light-sensitive chemical, objects are placed over the sensitized material and exposed to a UV light source. Areas that are not blocked out by stencils or objects become a rich indigo blue, while the covered areas become white. White Japanese sashiko thread was used for hand-stitching.
